MEPCO New Connection — How to Apply

Building a new home or shop in South Punjab? A MEPCO connection follows a fixed, published process — application, survey, demand notice, payment, then meter installation. Here it is without the guesswork.

The process, step by step

  1. Apply. Submit the new-connection application through the link on MEPCO's official website (mepco.com.pk) or at your local MEPCO sub-division office. Choose the right category — domestic, commercial, industrial or agriculture (tubewell) — and the sanctioned load you genuinely need.
  2. Attach your documents (list below) and note the application number you receive — it is your tracking reference for everything that follows.
  3. Site survey. MEPCO staff visit the premises to confirm the load, the distance from the nearest pole/line and the material required.
  4. Demand notice is issued. This is the official payment voucher covering the security deposit and service-connection charges calculated from your load and the survey. It states the exact amount and the bank where it can be paid.
  5. Pay the demand notice at the designated bank and submit the paid copy back to the office, along with the wiring/test certificate from a licensed electrician where required.
  6. Meter installation. MEPCO installs the meter and service cable and energises the connection. Your first bill follows in the next billing cycle — and with it, your very own reference number for online checking.

Documents usually required

  • Copy of the applicant's CNIC.
  • Proof of ownership of the premises (registry/fard) — or, for a rented property, the rent agreement with the owner's CNIC copy and permission.
  • A recent paid electricity bill of a neighbouring connection (often requested to identify the feeding source).
  • For larger or three-phase loads: a wiring test certificate from a licensed electrician.
  • Additional documents for commercial/industrial categories (business registration, NTN and site plans as applicable).

Requirements can differ slightly by category and circle; the sub-division office confirms the final list when you apply.

What it costs — and what decides it

There is no single flat fee for a new connection. Your demand notice is built from the security deposit for your sanctioned load, the cost of the service line and material (which grows with the distance from the existing network), and whether the supply is single or three phase. The notice itself is the authoritative figure — pay only the amount printed on it, only at the bank it names, and keep the stamped copy.

Choose your load honestly: under the current tariff, a monthly fixed charge per kW of sanctioned load is billed every month. Asking for far more load than the house will ever use means paying for it forever; asking for too little risks overloading. A licensed electrician can size it correctly.

Tracking your application

Your application number lets you follow progress: ask at the sub-division office, use the application-tracking facility linked from MEPCO's website where available, or call 118 / 0800-63726 for guidance. Timelines vary with category, season and material availability — a straightforward domestic connection near an existing line is normally the fastest, while connections needing new poles or a transformer take longer. If an application stalls without explanation, escalate it as a formal complaint quoting the application number.

Bought a property that already has a connection? You do not need a new one — transfer the existing connection into your name instead.

Safety & honesty note: every genuine charge appears on the printed demand notice and is paid at a bank. Anyone asking for cash “to speed things up” is not part of the official process — decline and report it through the complaint channels.
